Question: Discuss about the Professional Skills for Information And Communication Technology Portfolio. Answer: The interpersonal skills that involve listening and verbal communication skill are effective learning I received from the course. It was required in the team project for the completion of the course criteria. I used my verbal communication skills and listening ability effectively to communicate with my other team members and coordinate accordingly to carry out the project. I had to read several articles, books, journals throughout the course for developing report, essay and others to fulfill the criteria. I used to set small individual goals for and moved on to the next after completion. I identified important words that provided me idea of the text needed further reading, paraphrased the statements and summarized the finding to make a relevant and sequential report. My team was composed of three members including myself. As we are from different cultures, I had to work with my verbal communication skills for coordinating with the other team members. Moreover, the reliability was also important in the team that I built with maintaining timely completion of tasks. I prioritized the deadlines for this purpose. While writing the essay on ethical consideration of ICT, I had to study several articles available on the internet. Many of them talked about the issues related to the ethics of ICT. One example I remember is the improper implementation of ICT in the primary school. It is a critical behavioural issue of ethics that can show negative outcome in the children and needs revision. Hence, it is important to take the ethics of ICT seriously for getting desired outcome. According to my opinion, cultural diversity should be prioritized and the best way of doing so is the transparent communication. The team I was working in was a culturally diverse team where we faced initial communication gap. However, communication and respectful approach helped me to overcome the situation. I gave priority to their opinion and conducted respectful behavior for opening them up and achieve transparent communication. The research proposal that I had to prepare for the completion of the course taught me the process of evaluating the ICT technologies. There I had to study several journal articles and books on the topic that enriched my knowledge of ICT and enabled me to evaluate the ICT technologies. Two communication and collaboration technologies that are popular in the market and I learnt from the course are Skype and Sharepoint. Both of these technologies have importance in any business organization as the Skype is used to conduct any distant meeting. Many organization conduct interviews over Skype. SharePoint on the other hand is used in data sharing among the team members. Feedback: Likings The two things about the course that I liked the most are the inclusion of team project and the reading assignment. These two has their effectiveness in addressing the communication and reading that are the two important part of the course. Moreover, the team project not only increases the communication but also the ethical consideration that is required and an integral part of the team coordination. Suggestion The team size in one of the things that I consider should be revised. The length of the teams is too short for performing the task and hardly serves the purpose communication. The real world team length will be much greater than one provided in the course. The second suggestion that I would like to make is the incorporation of more practical works in the unit. The course is theory based where a lot of reading is included. However, an small internship in a real world organization will facilitate to experience the situation.
